A period of stagnation: the waters are muddied, and a sluggish disorder prevails. Freestyle swimming is suddenly out of the question. The inferior (mud) is on the rise, the superior (clarity) on the decline. In such times, the wise man takes shelter in his own integrity, and goes into seclusion until the waters clear.
